Wildlife sightings for 18th December 2024

1 Pintail on the Main Lake, 1 Blackcap feeding, 6 Siskin around the Sheltered Lagoon and 3 Kestrel near the Main Car Park.

1 Bittern- Wildside Hide

1 Female Pintail- Main lake seen from Headley Hide

1 Reed Bunting- Reedbeds

1 Blackcap- South Route bird feeders

1 Sparrowhawk- Wader Scrape

6 Siskin - Sheltered Lagoon (more heard around South Route bird feeders later on)

10+ Goldfinch - south route

3 Kestrel - Main Car Park

50+ Lapwing - main lake

The December Water Rail survey found 18 calling birds across the reserve - reedbed, reservoir lagoon, main lake, sheltered lagoon, wildside and scrape. Bitterns can be found either on the north shore of the reservoir lagoon or any of the main lake shores where there is a reed fringe. Look for Siskins and Redpolls feeding in birch or alder trees (particularly wildside and sheltered lagoon). Sooner than expected, 7 Song thrush have been heard singing around the site.
