Wildlife Sightings for 20th November 2024

Water Pipit on marsh, Yellow-legged Gull on main lake and Siskins feeding in the alders

1 Water Pipit - marsh. Also dropped on to one of the reservoir lagoon islands

9 Chiffchaff - wildside, sheltered lagoon

50 Redwing- over SW/W plus some birds feeding on the reserve

7 Siskin- sheltered lagoon

1 Redpoll - over W

1 Yellow-legged Gull 2nd winter - main lake

1 Shelduck- seen from WWF Hide

1 Little Grebe- scrape

30+ Teal- scrape

40+ Wigeon- reservoir lagoon, scrape, marsh

The November Water Rail survey found 17 calling birds across the reserve - reedbed, reservoir lagoon, main lake, sheltered lagoon and scrape. Bitterns can be found either on the north shore of the reservoir lagoon or any of the main lake shores where there is a reed fringe. Look for Siskins and Redpolls feeding in birch or alder trees (particularly wildside and sheltered lagoon).
