Wildlife Sightings for 3rd October 2024
1 Bittern, 6 Water Rail, 1 Skylark, 3 Blackcap, 1 Black Redstart, 1 Linnet, 1 Siskin
1 Bittern - from peacock tower, reservoir lagoon
6 Water Rail calling - 2 Sheltered Lagoon, 2 Main Lake southeast shores, 2 Southern end of main reedbed
1 Skylark - Flying west
30 Meadow Pipit - Flying in all directions
3 Blackcap - bottom of south route
1 Lesser Whitethroat - wader scrape below the Peacock Tower
1 Black Redstart -shrubs/trees by WWF hide entrance
1 Linnet - Wildside hide
1 Siskin - Headley hide
1 Redwing - sheltered lagoon
Cetti's Warblers, Reed Buntings and Reed Warblers can be found in the reedbed and any other reed fringes. Look for Sedge Warblers at the scrubby edges of the marsh, reservoir lagoon and main lake. Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs are active in the scrublands of wildside, south route and sheltered lagoon. Watch the electric fences around the marsh for perching Whinchat or Stonechat.
Dragonflies: (September 8th survey) Migrant Hawker, Ruddy Darter, Common Darter, Willow Emerald Damselfly.
Butterflies: (September 20th survey) Large White, Small White, Speckled Wood, Red Admiral, Small Copper, Common Blue.
