Great-crested Grebe

A Great-crested Grebe in front of the Harrier Hide was new for the year. The deeper water in that area has been attracting this species in the past few years. It is also good for Little Grebe, Pochard and Tufted Duck.

Not quite as windy today although interesting to note a adult breeding plumage Kittiwake was seen from the Ron Barker Hide this morning probably relocating to the coast after being blown inland yesterday.

Classic summer visitors are still restricted to Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Sand Martin and Swallow.

No specific counts on the wader front but plenty of Avocet, Lapwing, Oystercatcher, Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Redshank and sightings of Curlew and Common Snipe.

At least two Marsh Harrier, 6+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk today. Two Raven again.

Currently you'd be unlucky to miss the Mediterranean Gulls on the Mere (direction from in focus).

With a full days birding around the reserve it should be possible to see over 60 species.
