Hen Harrier again

The cracking male Hen Harrier was again hunting over the fields in the afternoon, before being escorted off the reserve by irate Lapwings. Other raptors included juv Peregrine, Sparrowhawk, sev Common Buzzard and Kestrel. At least 2 Barn Owl were seen, one 11am and another late afternoon.

Still good numbers of waders with 60 Avocet, 56 Ostercatcher, 54 Ruff, 18 Black tailoed Godwit, 2 Curlew, 8+ Ringed Plover and 2 Redshank. A pair of Goldeneye were on the Mere early morning along with c800 Whooper Swan, and at least 1300 Pink footed Geese were using the reserve today.

A good selection of gulls on the Mere with several Common Gull, Herring Gull and a pair of Lesser and Great black backed Gull for comparison as well as good numbers of Black headed Gull.
