Latest Sightings

Our monthly Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) was carried out today. It allows us to monitor the populations of non-breeding birds. Numbers will fluctuate on a day-to-day basis as the birds move around the site and the surrounding landscape.

Today, we have a good number of Whooper Swans on the Mere, and Pink-Footed Geese on the fields behind. The Snow Goose has made a reappearance and may be spotted on the Mere amongst the Greylag Geese. 3 Russian White-Fronted Geese were spotted on Friday, but are yet to be seen.

Black-Tailed Godwits and Ruff are showing well close to Discovery Hide. Also sighted today were 6 Cetti’s Warbler on the trees in the Collections, near the Barnacle Geese, and on the path near the reedbed leading to Rees hide. 1 Green Sandpiper and Siskins were observed from Harrier Hide.

The Kingfisher is showing well at Ron Barker hide. Over the weekend, Redwings were seen in the car park, and 1 Peregrine, 1 Sparrowhawk and 4 Marsh Harrier were spotted on the Mere.
