Latest Sightings
On a sunny but breezy day, Black-Tailed Godwits, Ruff andTufted Ducks are to be seen on the Mere. There are still some Shelduck, Wigeon and Pintail all around the reserve. 2 Mediterranean Gulls are regularly seen on the large raft on the Mere, amongst the nesting Black-Headed Gulls.
At Rees hide, 65 Avocets, Gadwall, Oystercatchers and Redshank were observed.
Great Spotted Woodpeckers have been seen regularly from Janet Kear Hide, and a Barn Owl was spotted hunting earlier in the week from Ron Barker hide.
Most of our Whooper Swans have now left the Mere and flown back to Iceland for the breeding season, except for a few which may remain on the reserve over the summer.
With the recent sunny weather, Brimstone and Peacock butterflies are to be seen all around the site.
