Latest Sightings

Today's featured image taken by placement student Elise Sutton is of one of the first Lapwing nests. Absolutely perfect weather for these birds at the moment. The chicks could be out on the reserve in the next few weeks, hope the weather holds for them.

The ringtail Hen Harrier is still in the area, 3+ Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Peregrine.

Bearded Tit again today on the Reed Bed, at least 3 singing Cetti's Warbler, Sedge Warbler, numerous Reed Bunting and two pair of Great-crested Grebe.

At least 10 Ruff with birds developing into breeding plumage. Two Lttle Ringed Plover mostly on the Mere. Around 100 Black-tailed Godwit, 90 Avocet, 13 Oystercatcher, 4 Redshank.

Fifteen Corn Bunting near the Railway Crossing also birds on territory on Marsh Moss Lane. Two male Yellowhammer in the hedge to the right of the Ron Barker Hide yesterday.

Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Blackcap in song around the reserve.

Around 20 Whooper Swan came into roost yesterday. Shelduck pairs are all over the reserve. At least 60 Shoveler, small numbers of Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall, Tufted and Pochard present.
