A Whooper Swan count was down to 316 birds. Most of these will have left by the beginning of April. Water levels in front of the Ron Barker Hide were dropped a few weeks ago to provide better habitat for waders and the levels on the Mere are now to follow suit.

A Peregrine was noteworthy flying over the reserve, but not apparently hunting. At least 2 Marsh Harrier, 6 Common Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Wader counts included 78 Avocet, 40+ Ruff, 30+ Black-tailed Godwit, 32 Curlew (new in), 6 Ringed Plover, 8+ Redshank, 40+ Oystercatcher and 200 Lapwing.
