Male Hen Harrier and Goosanders
A stunning male Hen Harrier was the days stand out highlight, seen quartering the outer fields for about 40 mins before heading out towards Southport, hopefully more sightings in the coming days. Other raptors included 8+ Buzzard, Kestrel and Peregrine.
A group of 9 female Goosander which briefly dropped onto the Mere was a one short of the all time record of 10 birds from August 2008.
Up to 3 Barn Owls were out during the afternoon, also 3+ Little Egret.
The Willow Tit continues to show at Janet Kear Hide along with Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker along with Reed Buntings, Chaffinches and Greenfinches.
A group of c40 Ruff can be easily seen at the moment as well as a few Black-tailed Godwit, 30+ Snipe and 1200+ Lapwing including a colour ringed bird.
