Sunday's Sightings +
An early start for us until our body clocks reset! Blue skies and a chill in the wind to start Sunday. Further influxes of Whooper Swan and Pink-footed Geese as cold weather starts to bite in Iceland moving birds into the UK.
Over 16,000 Pink-footed Geese roosting on the reserve with some excellent views on the Mere during the day (below). Two European White-fronted Geese have been with local flocks of pinks too. At least 350 Whooper Swan now in and many reports across the UK of birds on the move.
Good for raptors with 4 Marsh Harrier, 2 Peregrine, 4+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Also 2 Barn Owl and roosting Tawny Owl.
Waders included 600+ Lapwing, 100+ Black-tailed Godwit, 50 Ruff, 150+ Snipe, Redshank and Green Sandpiper.
Other sightings include Kingfisher, Willow Tit, Cetti’s Warbler and Chiffchaff
Locally some great birding on the coast with White-rumped Sandpiper, American Golden Plover and American Wigeon.
