Weekend Sightings
A compilation of Saturday and Sunday's sightings.
Still time to see the winter spectacle at Martin Mere and catch up with the long staying Tundra Bean Goose, still present this morning around the edge of the Mere. Some great birding locally too with the North American Canada Goose and Grey-bellied Brent Goose showing near by on the coast.
A few hundred Whooper Swan present during the day. Good numbers of Mallard, Shelduck, Teal, Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler and smaller numbers of Tufted Duck, Gadwall and Pochard.
At least 500 Lapwing still present, 11 Avocet, 45 Ruff, 30+ Oystercatcher, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Redshank (some of the first this year) and 16+ Snipe.
Six species of raptor; Ring-tail Hen Harrier (picture by Phil Johnson), Peregrine, 3 Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.
Six Little Egret on the reserve.
Med Gull mostly in breeding plumage.
The long staying Willow Tit is still visiting the feeders at the Janet Kear Hide.
Singing Cetti's Warblers on the Reedbed. Skylarks active early on.
A nice selection of mammals including 4 Roe Deer, Brown Hare and Stoat.
