Avocet chicks keep hatching.

Avocets

A real feature at the moment and we look set to have our best year ever. Around 50 adults on site and all seem to be either prospecting, incubating or protecting young. Getting difficult to keep track of all the broods but here go's. On the Rushy 5 big young at least one of which is now flying. Two broods of three, one about 8 days old ( which may have moved to the Robbie Garnett Hide) and the other about 5. On the South Lake, a single old bird probably fledged, one brood of 4 or two twos are big and well feathered, another brood of 2 or 3 about 15 days old and a brood of 3 about 5 days old. A newly hatched chick was seen briefly under an incubating adult so another brood about to venture forth soon. another 5 pairs are still incubating on the South Lake and two on the Rushy. Recent good weather has helped by generating lots of emerging insect for all this lot to feed on.
