Cattle Egret

A breeding plumaged Cattle Egret first seen in flight over the Mere mid afternoon was eventually relocated from Ron Barker Hide on the grass at the side of Langley's Brook a while later. Also at least 1 Little Egret on site today.

A good selection of waders seen today with another record count of Black-tailed Godwit on the Mere with up to 2850! Also possibly up to 4 Greenshank around today, plus a single Golden Plover flew over the Mere in the morning, up to 2 Green Sandpiper on the Mere and 5 Dunlin on Woodend Marsh from UU Hide. Also small numbers of Snipe around the reserve and at least 22 Ruff.

On the raptor front a juvenile Peregrine was around in the morning also 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Sparrowhawk, few Buzzard and Kestrel.

Still a Little Grebe on the Mere and from Harrier Hide.

Slowly increasing numbers of Teal around the reserve, still plenty of Gadwall and Shoveler along with small numbers of Tufted Duck and a few Pochard.

The first family groups of Pink-footed Goose could arrive in the next 10 days given favourable weather conditions.
