First Willow Warbler of the year

Late news for yesterday- White Stork flew over at 1405hrs!

A noticeable increase in Chiffchaff with 20+ birds singing about the site, three singing Blackcap and the sweet sound of the first singing Willow Warbler of 2019. The latter bird has been in the hedge between the Holden Tower and Martin Smith Hide.

Tack Piece

150 E. White-fronted Geese remain but for how long? They have been very flighty today. A Little-ringed Plover was on the flood in the centre of the field for a time this morning, this or another was seen here briefly yesterday. 31 Shoveler, 10 Redshank and 200+ Wigeon remain on the flood.

Rushy Hide

Four Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Avocet, 9 Redshank, 18 Teal and a busy Black-headed Gull colony.

South Lake

369 Black-tailed Godwit, 22 Avocet, a Ruff, a Redshank, 45 Shoveler and two 3cy Mediterranean Gull among the Black-headed Gulls.

Holden Tower

29 Avocet, 4 Shoveler, 20 Wigeon, a Redshank and Black-tailed Godwit on the scrape. Plenty of displaying and territiorial Lapwing on the Dumbles, 5 Oystercatcher, two Peregrines and 149 Curlew. The E. White-fronted Geese were here on and off during the day.

Kingfisher Hide

The Kingfisher pair have been very active again today, around the hide or in the Bottom New Piece were 3 Redwing, drummiing Great Spotted Woodpecker, 10 Gadwall, 148 Golden Plover, a pair of Pintail 40 Teal and 5 Avocet on the distant flood.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

7 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Redshank, 11 Avocet, 30 Teal and 15+ Lapwing.

General

Two 'cream crown' Marsh Harriers were on site today,
