Green-winged Teal again
Wintery condition biting a little on the reserve over the past couple of days. Some excellent light too as long as you are wrapped up!
The Green-winged Teal is still present, picked up in the 2500+ Eurasian Teal on the reserve. The bird was seen from the Ron Barker Hide on Vinson's Marsh before being spooked by raptors.
Up to 4 Marsh Harrier around, 2 Peregrine today, 4+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
Fourteen species of wildfowl on the Mere alone including Goldeneye.
Recent Lapwing counts have hit c2000, 50+ Ruff, 20 Common Snipe and a few Black-tailed Godwit.
Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide.
Goldcrests along the Nature Trail.
As usual it should be possible to see at least 50 species of bird in a day without too much effort, although a telescope is very useful from most of the hides.
If you are visiting the reserve, pop in to the in focus shop (next to the Discovery Hide) where we have a full list of birds, and should be able to point you in the right direction to get the most out of your visit.
