Latest Sightings
The Pectoral Sandpiper has still been showing well all weekend and again today is at the back of the Mere. The mere has plenty of mud which is also attracting lots more waders including Green Sandpipers, Common Sandpipers, 200 Black-tailed godwits, 18 Ruff and 5 Greenshank.
The kingfishers at Ron Barker hide have been showing well this weekend the best places to see them are downstairs on the left or straight out on the perch over boathouse sluice.
The marsh harriers have been showing well with often 2 hunting over the reserve. On Saturday they were chasing a young peregrine.
At Janet Kear hide the feeders are busy with young finches its been a good breeding year for Greenfinches, Goldfinches and Chaffinches and they can be seen squabbling over the best perches. The Great spotted woodpecker can also be seen coming down to feed on the peanuts.
The cattle egrets arent following the cattle as much the past couple of weeks and are enjoying sitting on the islands on the mere with up to 5 on occasions., sometimes they are right infront of the viewing screens.
