Latest Sightings
As we move into October with the weather being more autumnal the reserve has seen the arrivals of more migratory ducks. On the mere the first porchard was seen alongside the first arrivals of shelduck with 7 seen having arrived from moult in the Waddell Sea.
The ducks are also coming to the end of their eclipse, with mallards and gadwall having bright fresh plumage, along with the wigeon which are looking very smart indeed.
With the high water levels on the site to benefit the wintering ducks, wader numbers are relatively low, with only large of lapwing present and green sandpiper at Hale hide. Hopefully as the weather gets cooler more species will start arriving.
Aside from the bird life, an otter was seen from Ron Barker hide on Friday within the main ditch.
