Latest Sightings

Overcast early on with light winds and no rain. Just a brief update.

Waders include 400+ Lapwing, 10+ Black-tailed Godwit, Wood Sandpiper, 20+ Ruff including one carrying what looks a crossbow bolt right through it's body, presumably shot on the breeding grounds (it is still flying, feeding etc!) 2 Little Ringed Plover,  50+ Common Snipe, 3 Greenshank, Green Sandpiper.

Raptors; 3 Marsh Harrier including a near adult male, Peregrine, 4+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Barn Owl viewable in it's day time roost from the Harrier Hide.

Plenty of Teal with 300+ on the reserve joining a few Wigeon, Shoveler and Gadwall all currently in eclipse plumage.

Kingfisher(s) can be seen from the Ron Barker Hide.

It should be possible to see at least 50 species of bird in a day without too much effort, although a telescope is very useful from most of the hides.

If you are visiting the reserve, pop in to the In Focus shop where we have a full list of birds, and should be able to point you in the right direction to get the most out of your visit.
