Latest Sightings

Two Drake Garganey on the Mere then on Woodend Marsh.


A Wood Sandpiper dropped in on the Mere then flew off south, possibly a new bird.

Five Ringed Plover on Woodend Marsh are new in, also 2 Dunlin there and a Common Sandpiper. Two Whimbrel on the Mere late afternoon.

Six Little Ringed Plover on site at the moment.

At least 2 White Wagtail on site a few Pied. This White Wagtail showed well on 'in focus island'. Six Wheatear on Langley's Field. Just off the reserve on Curlew Lane 4 Yellow Wagtail and 3 Wheatear.


Cuckoo active on the Reed Bed and into the grounds near the Canoe Safari.

More Whitethroat (below) actively singing around the reserve perimeter and out on the Reed Bed. At least 2 Grasshopper Warbler on site with birds reeling on Pump House Field near the Ron Barker Hide and out on Woodend Marsh.

A family party of 4 Whooper Swan (most likely those that have been feeding on Marsh Moss Lane) flew onto the Mere mid morning before flying off North. Are they the last non injured birds to leave? Nine Pink-footed Geese still around.

Along the Nature Trail Red Campion (below) is in flower.
