Latest Sightings

Another day when the weather wasn't really playing ball early on. Nevertheless anyone visiting the reserve will still come away a great selection of birds, 50-60 species in a days birding.

Good on the raptor front again with highlights including a Merlin mobbing a Peregrine (y'day), minimum of 3 Marsh Harrier, 3+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Two Barn Owl hunting.

At least 500 Lapwing present, 12 Ruff, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 50+ Snipe.

Bullfinch along the Nature Trail, Chiffchaff singing next to the in focus shop.

Over 100 Pintail now present on the reserve.

Just a handful of Whooper Swan currently on the Mere during the day. Current weather condition will probably delay any sizeable arrivals of Whoopers and Pink-footed Geese.

Thirteen Swallow south around midday.

Willow Tit again from the Janet Kear Hide. Goldcrest on the Nature Trail. Jay(s) on the move again over the reserve.

Far better conditions by the afternoon!
