Latest sightings

We have had another glorious week of weather. The flowers are coming out on mass lots of cuckoo's flower in the fields, the bank to Janet Kear hide is awash with forget-me-nots.

A few migrants passing through this week including whinchat and wheatears (stock photo - Andy Bunting). A few migrants arriving including whitethroats, reed warblers and grasshopper warblers.

The waders numbers are changing daily, today we have 3 ringed plovers, 2 little ringed plovers, dunlin, green sandpipers, avocets, lapwing, snipe, jack snipe, curlew, black-tailed godwits, redshank and oystercatchers.

We had some visitors from windmill animal farm.... 4 water buffalo swam across the ditch to see our herd of English Longhorn Cattle and share their grass, the team helped to round them up and send them back (across the bridge this time).

The grounds, the nature reserve and all hides and paths are closed at WWT Martin Mere, following government guidance on Covid-19. A small team of essential staff is working on site looking after the animals and completing essential tasks on the reserve. Please do not attempt to visit the site as you will be putting our staff and yourself at risk.
