A lovely pair of otters on the mere today (photo)

The rain has arrived which has refreshed the ground, we are due rain over the next few days which will hopefully fill the pool in woodend marsh. Currently on woodend marsh there are ringed plovers, little ringed plovers, avocets (and chicks) lapwing (and fledged chicks).

On the mere there are still lots of avocet chicks, the little ringed plovers chicks have hatched and lots of black-headed gull chicks. Lots of ducklings on the mere including shelduck, mallard, shoveler and tufted ducks.

The tree sparrows are sat on eggs (their second brood), the stock dove eggs in the discovery hide have hatched. Most of the blue tits and great tits have fledged the rest are due to fledge this week.

On vinsons and sunleys (infront of Ron Barker hide) there are pochard ducklings, Shelduck ducklings, black-tailed godwits and lots of black-headed gull chicks.

The grounds, the nature reserve and all hides and paths are closed at WWT Martin Mere, following government guidance on Covid-19. A small team of essential staff is working on site looking after the animals and completing essential tasks on the reserve. Please do not attempt to visit the site as you will be putting our staff and yourself at risk.
