Merlin

At least 3 Merlin were again on view late afternoon with one of the birds on view almost all day, also 4 Marsh harrier, Adult Peregrine, Common Buzzard, Kestrel and 1-2 Sparrowhawk.

A few sightings of Kingfisher over the Mere also the Willow Tit, and Nuthatch were visiting the feeding station at Janet Kear Hide.

Two Barn Owl were out hunting this afternoon and 2 Raven were seen for the second day running

Yesterdays WeBS count revealed totals of 4 Mute Swan, 449 Wigeon, 4 Gadwall, 1021 Teal, 607 Mallard, 246 Pintail, 11 Shoveler, 37 Pochard, 10 Tufted Duck, 437 Shelduck, 79 Greylag Goose, 13 Canada Goose, 4 Little Grebe, 29 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 5 Little Egret, 269 Coot, 457 Lapwing, 61 Ruff, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, 388 Black-headed Gull, pair Great Black-backed Gull, 1 Kestrel, 3 Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Barn Owl and 2 Cetti's Warbler.

Also a dawn count this morning saw 4200 Pink-footed Geese recorded and 921 Whooper Swans of which 204 were juveniles giving a 22% ratio which is slightly better than this time last year when we had 724 Whoopers of which 155 were juveniles giving a ratio of 21%

Yesterday 2 Treecreepers were seen along with several Goldcrest on the walk to Ron Barker Hide.
