Sightings

A murky drizzly day on and off promised more than it delivered, despite that plenty of birds to be seen and slowly increasing numbers of wildfowl and a Whimbrel was new in.

A Whimbrel was in Plover field in the morning also 6 Ringed Plover were new birds on Mere and Woodend Marsh along with 2 juv Little Ringed Plover. Only 3 Black-tailed Godwit were on the Mere, a good count of 765 Lapwing, 27 Ruff, 3 Green Sandpiper, 1 Redshank and 60+ Snipe.

At least 2 Water Rail were heard and seen from Harrier Hide also a Cetti's Warbler was heard from here and another was heard in the Ron Barker area.

A small increase in Wigeon with 15 being counted, also 1 Pintail (fem with drooping wing), 564 Teal, 9 Gadwall, 48 Shoveler, 771 Mallard, 2 Mute Swan, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Shelduck, 486 Greylag Geese, 2100 Pink-footed Goose and 88 Canada Goose.

A Little Egret flew over the Mere.

At least 2 Marsh Harrier were reported and 3 Buzzard, 2 Sparrowhawk and 2 Kestrel.

A Stoat was on the far side of the Mere in the morning
