Wader-fest

July is off to a cracking start with more waders coming onto the reserve. A quick recce this morning produced Spotted Redshank (bottom pic) in mostly breed plumage, 2 male Ruff, 5 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Ringed Plover, 3 Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Dunlin, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 15+ Avocet, 25 Lapwing and 2 Oystercatcher all on Woodend Marsh, viewed from the UU Hide or the banking between there and the Sewage Works.

The last pair of nesting Common Tern have hatched out at least one chick on the central island on the Mere today. A good year for Common Tern here with one of the three pair having already fledged 3 chicks.
