Whooper Swans

A good start to the day watching 600+ Whooper Swan fly onto the reserve. A roost count last week put the numbers on 800 but it's likely we have had more new arrivals in the last 7 days.

Great to see so many Teal and Wigeon hanging around the Mere today

An adult male Peregrine hunting seems like a new bird. Recently we have had immature male and female birds. At least 3 Marsh Harrier, 3+ Buzzard including a very pale headed bird, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Wader counts; 600+ Lapwing, 30+ Ruff, 50+ Snipe, 100+ Black-tailed Godwit and a Dunlin.

Willow Tit, Nuthatch and Coal Tit from the Janet Kear Hide.

Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide.

If you are visiting the reserve call in at the in focus shop next to the Discovery Hide for up to date info or to report sightings.
