Latest Sightings
Although it's been a windy week at Martin Mere, we've managed to see some lovely species. Up to 8 Marsh Harriers have been spotted soaring above the reedbed and fields. We had the pleasure of being greeted by a Sparrowhawk perched on the lookout hide on the community reedbed walk near the public footpath. Our wonderful volunteers have been doing some amazing work in the reedbed clearing willow to make way for the breeding Bearded Tits in March! They love the edges on the reeds so taking out these trees increases their habitat variety. At Janet-Kear up to 6 Brambling are on our new peanut and fat ball feeders and seem to be enjoying the variety! Next door, at the Tawny Owl box, a grey squirrel has taken up residence, but luckily we have a pair of Tawny Owls in the box on the canoe safari making a lovely home for themselves. Lastly, we had some Oyster Catchers come in late today, they can be seen from Discovery Hide on the Main Mere.
