With some of our highest recorded wind speeds, it's been a little difficult to go bird watching this past week! This morning, we did a swan and goose count of the whole reserve which totalled 688 swans and 1630 geese - good to see they didn't blow away in those storms. The Great White Egret was seen at the back of Vinson's this morning, despite the rain, and our Oyster catcher number remains around the same at 97. There was a Hare waiting to greet us when unlocking Harrier Hide and there was some beautiful calling from Mistle Thrush and Tawny Owl just before sunrise. We'll be doing the Wetland Bird Survey today so we will have a good idea how our species numbers have changed compared with last month, and the results from this will be written on the whiteboard outside the visitor's centre. We are also going to be doing some clean up from the storm which damaged a few trees. We hope everyone has managed to stay safe during this weather!
