Latest Sightings

On this Monday we've seen the Kingfisher, Barn Owl, Swallows, and Swifts at Ron-Barker. There have been some Avocets dropping in from the Mere to feed on Sunleys, but all the nests are on the back islands on the Main Mere. Common Tern and Great Crested Grebe are both sighted on there too! Avocet chicks have been seen and so have some Shelduck and Mediterranean Gull chicks! We've had Whitethroat and 4 Spotted Chaser Dragonflies out on the path between Gordon-Taylor and the reedbed. There have been some lovely moths in our trap over the weekend, including an Elephant Hawk Moth, Poplar Hawkmoth, and White Ermine. Cuckoos can be heard from Ron-Barker, the grounds, and the reedbed and we have a pair of Greater Spotted Woodpecker nesting in the grounds. On our Breeding Bird Survey we were able to hear Sedge and Reed Warbler, as well as at least one Bearded Tit. Blackcaps are singing loud at the moment on both sides of the nature trail.
