Latest Sightings

Spoonbills is the highlight this week with 4 arriving on Tuesday and sitting on Woodend marsh, viewable from the United Utilities hide, Rees, Tomlinson and Gordon Taylor. The mud on the pools has been attracting lots of waders with 2 Common Sandpipers in front of the screens on the mere. 14 Little ringed plovers on Ron Barker, 2 Ringed plovers and 2 juvenile Goosanders. And upto 4 Green Sandpipers on Woodend Marsh.

The Marsh Harriers are doing well the nest by the Ron Barker hide has 4 chicks (one is hiding in the photo) Photo taken during a nest recording visit under schedule one licence.

The Black-tailed godwits have started to arrive with now 19 on the Mere.

The moth trap has been busy with a good variety including Dark Spectacle, Eyed hawk moths, Elephant hawkmoths, Poplar hawkmoths, The flame, Flame shoulder, and Buff arches.
