Latest Sightings

Plenty of waders are enjoying the mud on the mere at the moment, black tailed godwits are often feeding there now along with groups of ruff and lapwings. 4 redshank joined them yesterday along with 3 dunlin. Woodend marsh is also doing well for waders currently as it is also attracting groups of black-tailed godwits and ruff. 2 greenshank and a wood sandpiper are intermittently being seen on Woodend along with up to 4 green sandpipers and 2 common sandpipers. 6 snipe were feeding in front of Tomlinson hide this morning.

Common terns are still hanging around on the mere and viewed well from Discovery hide, a number of newly fledged black-headed gulls are also easy to see from there.

A peregrine has been seen hunting over Woodend marsh a number of times over the past week and the marsh harriers are still best viewed from the Ron Barker hide. Barn owls have been showing well on our Bat and Barn Owl Evenings, particularly over Woodend marsh and in Long meadow.

We still have cattle egrets spending much of their time with our cows, varying in numbers from 2 - 4 but the most we have seen is 6. A number of little egrets and grey herons are seen over much of the reserve and a Kingfisher has been showing well on our Canoe safari from time to time.
