The recent windy and cold weather from the north has brought a lot of new whooper swans to Martin Mere over the past few days. A count on Thursday afternoon revealed we had around 170 swans on the mere. The potatoes outside Hale hide are very popular at the moment with the swans.

Elsewhere bittern has been sighted from Ron Barker hide dropping into the reedbed around Vinson's. Marsh harrier are ever present at Ron Barker too with hen harrier seen from the hide on Friday as well.

The cattle egrets are easily visible on site at the moment as well. The cattle have been moved to Long Meadow, on the path between Gordon Taylor and Tomlinson hide, so the egrets can be seen quite close up amongst the herd.
