Latest Sightings

The recent cold weather has brought in a lot more whooper swans to Martin Mere over the past week. A recent dawn count recorded 526 whooper swans across the site with just short of 400 individuals roosting on the mere.

The cold weather has also brought in a number of waders with small flocks of ruff seen on the right-hand edge of Sunley's, viewable from Ron Barker, and another in Plover Field, viewable from United Utilities. Two individuals were also noted on the concrete apron outside of Raines hide. There are also small numbers of black-tailed godwit and large numbers of lapwing on the mere.

Other sightings include a water rail seen from Mere View hide and willow tit using the feeders at Janet Kear.
