Latest Sightings
At Ron Barker hide this week marsh harriers have been seen displaying, cattle egrets, 4 great white egrets, large flocks of black-tailed godwits, and 2 green sandpipers were also seen. A water rail has been showing nicely from Mere View hide this past week, and a tawny owl has been sitting in the nest box just outside.
Lots of chiffchaffs have been seen along the nature trail, along with long-tailed tits carrying nesting materials, and many blackcaps have been heard singing there too. At Discovery hide yet more black-tailed godwits can be seen, as well as some black-headed gulls sitting on nests. 2 Mediterranean gulls have been seen on the tern rafts on the mere, and some of our overwintering ducks (pintails, wigeon, and teals) can also still be seen.
Further out on woodend marsh the avocets have been nesting, and some green sandpipers were seen nearby too. 40-50 were seen on Plover field this week.
