Hand feeding announcement

Latest Sightings

A Sparrowhawk was witnessed hunting in front of Discovery hide earlier this week.

On the Mere, 10 Mediterranean Gulls, 2 Great Black-Backed Gulls and 2 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls were counted.
10 Common Gulls were seen from Rees hide.

Also spotted around the Mere were 2 Buzzards, 5 Cormorants, 2 Whooper Swans, Shelduck, Wigeon and Lapwings.

Mallards are nesting around the site, and some ducklings have already hatched.

The first few Swallows of the year have sighted over the past few days as they begin to return from Africa. They have been seen flying over the visitor car park, visitor centre and café.

Many wading bird species can be seen in good numbers:

45 Avocet, 33 Black-Tailed Godwits, 3 Redshank, 2 Little Egret and 28 Oystercatchers were seen on the Mere. The first Common Sandpiper and Little Ringed Plovers of the year have also been observed.

42 Avocet, 5 Redshank, 5 Ruff, 1 Little Egret, and 3 Little Ringed Plover were observed from Rees hide.

At Ron Barker hide,1 Barn Owl and over 5 Skylark were sighted. Marsh Harriers can also be seen frequently. On the nature trail leading up to the hide, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker was seen.

At Harrier hide, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 15 Shoveler, 4 Pochard, 1 Little Grebe and 34 Gadwall were sighted.
