Latest sightings
Wader passage has started and there are a few dropping in across the reserve. Black-tailed godwits numbers have increased to 100 across Ron Barker and woodend marsh (viewable from Gordon Taylor hide and UU). Green and common sandpipers on the mere and on woodend marsh also heard calling over the grounds (common sandpiper in the cape barren goose pen today).
We are dropping the water levels on the mere to uncover lots of mud so hopefully we will see more waders on here. At the moment lots of lapwing on the mere.
Lots of butterflies along the nature trail and on the flowers in the ecogarden (by the white storks) meadow brown, gatekeeper, green-veined whites, peacocks and small tortoiseshells. We are surveying for white-letter hairstreaks by the Ron Barker hide, last seen on site in 2009. Holly blue seen on the outer reedbed walk (public footpath)
